ENGAGE Process

The ENGAGE Initiative processes

The ENGAGE Initiative consists of three phases:

  • Phase 1: Interviews and Requirements
  • Phase 2: Design and Development
  • Phase 3: Deployment and Evaluation

Interviews

OMII-UK has targeted a number of researchers asking them if they would consent to being interviewed for this project. The first set of pilot interviews involved researchers at the University of Southampton who we knew about through contacts within OMII-UK. The second phase of interviews involves researchers across the UK.

To determine potential interviewees we are using a number of sources, e.g. the SUPER project, OMII-UK registered users and NGS registered users. We are also interviewing researchers who have contacted us directly via the following email address - mailto:info@omii.ac.uk

Once we have identified a potential interviewee the following process is performed:

  1. Send email requesting interview (the template for this email can be viewed here).
  2. Interviewee agrees to be interviewed.
  3. Arrange a mutually convenient date and time and determine venue. Decide on whether the interview will be face-to-face or over the telephone.
  4. Send interviewee details regarding interview format (view the template here) and consent form (view the template here).
  5. Conduct interview.
    1. The interviewer gives an overview of the ENGAGE project and the e-IUS and e-Uptake projects.
    2. The interviewee is handed a copy of the interview questions and the interviewer explains the format of the interview.
    3. Although the interview is structured by the questions the researcher is encourage to talk about their research and experiences of e-Infrastructure.
    4. During the interview notes will be taken or the interview may be recorded.
  6. The transcribed interview notes are sent to the interviewee for them to make any corrections. The updated notes form the definitive record of the interview

It is important to note that all contact details are confidential and will only be shared within the three projects and will not be made public. Agreement will be obtained from the interviewee before any extracts are used in any material (including this website) produced from this project. The contact details are shared between the three projects so that each project is aware that a potential interviewee for one project might have already been contacted by another.
